BBC is reporting that a tax auditor in Finland died at his desk and that no one noticed for two days. www.news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3410547.stm?a What am I supposed to understand about this situation? Was his position so unnecessary that no one went into his office to check on him? The agency said co-workers assumed he did not want to be bothered. The agency also said that “procedures would have to be reviewed.”
Really? A man is dead in your office for two days and you have to review procedures so that it does not happen again? What will you do – ask workers to verify they are breathing each day? Shouldn’t interaction be part of working in a high rise building with at least 100 co-workers on the same floor? If a person can do work for days without any interaction, perhaps the job is not necessary?
And by the way, will the agency pay him through the date of discovery? After all, he was at his desk.
