Doug was one of the founding partners of Fishman, Larsen & Callister in 2000.
Doug’s background experience also includes having been a partner with another local law firm, where he practiced in the area of business litigation and developed that firm’s employment law practice.
Doug has been very involved with the Human Resource industry in Central California. He has served as an officer on boards of multiple HR organizations. He also brought local HR groups together and established the annual Central Valley HR & Safety Conference in 2000. Today it is the largest HR conference held in the Central Valley.
Doug Larsen provides practical advice for employers on avoiding litigation with workers, improving employee relations and complying with California’s complex system of workplace laws.
Areas of Representation
Doug represents employers in cases alleging unlawful discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, trade secret violations and unfair business practices.
Other representation includes working on behalf of employers and other defendants in claims involving the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”) and the False Claims Act.
Developing & Implementation of Policies
Doug develops policies and practices that actually work in the workplace, and that can be implemented, without undue time or expense to a business.
At the end of each year, Doug provides clients with a “Year in Review” course discussing the major cases, legislation and regulations affecting California employers.
As part of his presentation, Doug updates and drafts employee handbooks that accurately reflect those changes in California law.
In-House Human Resource Training
Doug also provides monthly in-house training courses for senior managers, human resource professionals, and various human resource organizations in the Central Valley on best practices and workplace management.
Topics of these training sessions have included: Handling DFEH or EEOC investigations; maintaining at-will employment; handling the interactive process with disabled employees; disciplining employees for the use of social media; protecting trade secrets and confidential information; employee privacy rights; handling employee substance abuse issues; avoiding wage and hour mistakes.
