Returning from an appointment yesterday I listened to the John Broeske show on KMJ radio. He and Al Smith were discussing the lawsuit brought by news carriers against The Fresno Bee. The carriers claim they were really employees and not independent contractors. Accordingly, they want the benefits of employees.
Al Smith asked a carrier what he would receive if the carriers won the lawsuit. The employee could not give an answer. I called in to answer the question. Some of you might be surprised to hear the answer.
I also discussed why these types of lawsuits are filed, and what should be done to reduce the number of lawsuits that bring employees little benefit.
